Established in 2004, DLF Seeds is a relatively new seed company in New Zealand. We are owned by Danish farm cooperative DLF Seeds, which began in 1906 and is the world’s largest seed company. DLF Seeds is a global leader in the breeding, production and sale of temperate grass, clover and fodder beet, and has one of the largest fodder beet breeding programmes in the world.
In New Zealand, DLF Seeds combines access to the world’s largest research programme in forage species, with a regional plant breeding and testing programme. This enables us to test the latest plant material and technology from around the world, to find what works best for New Zealand farms, across a range of climates and conditions.
Our New Zealand breeding programme uses premium local plant genetics, often crossing with elite international plants, to produce cultivars that consistently improve productivity.
We’re continually testing new breeding lines out in the field to confirm their potential benefits before they are introduced. We proudly and openly publish all results from our New Zealand regional trials regardless of seed performance. Our breeding centre is located in Canterbury.
